Rupert Murdoch is today named as the most important Australian of all time by one of the country's leading magazines, The Bulletin. Its editor-in-chief, Garry Linnell, described Murdoch as "close to being the most powerful unelected person on earth". Murdoch, in Sydney for the wedding of Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, won despite assuming American citizenship 20 years ago. He took the opportunity to urge the Australian government to draw up more liberal media ownership rules. His message: expand the current proposals to change the level of foreign and cross-media ownership or dump them altogether. (Via news.ninemsn.com.au)
