Murdoch MacLennan slams Rangers for cinch snub as SPFL chief writes to clubs over sponsorship sticking point

SPFL chief Murdoch MacLennan has written to the 41 other SPFL clubs after Rangers refused to show the cinch logo on their shirts or stadium.

The online car dealer has agreed an £8million deal to sponsor all four divisions, including the Scottish Premiership.

However, Rangers did not display the logo on their shirt sleeves or around Ibrox for their opening day win over Livingston.

Chairman Douglas Park owns a car dealership and the club are standing firm in the belief that SPFL rules to not require them to display the branding.

MacLennan has written to the other member clubs to express his disappointment over the stance adopted by Rangers.

He wrote: "Dear all. You will all be aware that earlier this summer, the SPFL signed a title sponsorship contract with cinch.

“This contract is, by value, the biggest single sponsorship deal in the 131-year history of the league.

“In the context of what is, by any measure, a challenging economic environment, our Chief Executive and his commercial team deserve huge credit for delivering this deal.

“It is therefore very disappointing that one of our clubs has not felt able to deliver inventory to cinch.

"Your board will be discussing this situation later this week. I will of course be in touch thereafter to give you a further update.”
