Murderer who killed man with Kopparberg bottle brags about criminal past in rap videos

A murderer found guilty of killing a man with a Kopparberg bottle appeared in rap videos bragging about being in prison with "killers and lifers".

Euan Peters, 42, was convicted of the murder of Shafiul Islam, 22, who was found unconscious at his ransacked Newport flat on November 14, 2019.

He died six days later at the Royal Gwent Hospital as a result of a "devastating brain injury" caused by at least three heavy blows delivered by Peters – who rapped under the name of Sax Coke.

Conlan Dunnion, 23, and Perrie Dunwell, 33, were found guilty of manslaughter following a trial at Newport Crown Court this month.

Peters admitted a single charge of conspiracy to rob Mr Islam while the other two defendants were found guilty of the same offence.

The court heard Peters was let into Mr Islam's home in Tewkesbury Walk by Dunnion in order to collect a debt in a robbery arranged by Dunwell, who drove his co-defendants away from the scene.

During the course of the trial it was revealed Peters was a rapper and had appeared on a rap podcast on the day of Mr Islam's death.

In music videos uploaded to YouTube Peters can be seen performing with other artists in which he refers to spending in time in prison.

In the video for track Crazy World Part One Peters is wearing shades, with a gold chain round his neck, sipping Malibu in a sports car and performing to a group stood outside the walls of HMP Cardiff.

During the track he raps: "I've been sat in jail putting pen to paper. . . . Ten years was long but my mind stayed strong. . . . I was stuck on them wings with those killers and lifers but I made it through fam I'm a born survivor."

He also says: "See I done mad s*** and had mad s*** done."

Murderer Euan Peters is seen taking a Kopparberg cider bottle from an Indian restaurant shortly before using it to beat 22-year-old Shafiul Islam to death at his home in Newport (Gwent Police)

In another video, for a track named Fresh Home, Peters is performing in a booth at a recording studio as he gestures towards the camera and sticks his middle finger up.

He raps: "Big Coke fresh from HMP, now I'm out I get to live that life, doing me and do what's right."

The murderer adds: "F*** HMP, they done me wrong. I got stitched, sent me up sticks. Hard time they done me raw, done swell behind the door, came out head f***** , then got locked up, couple months back out."

Peters, of Dros-Y-Morfa, Rumney, Cardiff, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 33 years at Newport Crown Court on Wednesday. Read more about the hearing here.
