Murderer dies in prison after stabbing neighbour to death

A prisoner jailed for stabbing his neighbour to death has died behind bars.

Alexander Wilson passed away earlier this week, 14 years after he pled guilty at Glasgow High Court to murdering Thomas Taylor in Renton West Dumbartonshire.

The circumstances of the 53-year-old's death are not yet known, however, a Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held at a later date.

Wilson, knifed Mr Taylor in Tontine Park in June 2007 after she advised him to "make himself scarce" following a dispute with a local drug dealer.

The killer, who was 39 at the time, had been drinking cider and taking painkillers and tranquillisers before he stabbed Mr Taylor with a kitchen knife.

The victim staggered to his mother's house and told her who had attacked him. Sadly he died at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Paisley.

The court was told that Wilson fell out with a drug pusher who accused him of stealing £20 worth of heroin. Mr Taylor, who was in no way involved in the dispute, suggested it might be an idea if Wilson "made himself scarce".

But Wilson "couldn't take the idea of being turfed out of his local area" and stabbed Mr Taylor.

The Scottish Prison Service confirmed in a statement published on its website today that Wilson was an inmate at HMP at the time of his death on December 13, adding: "Police Scotland has been advised and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal. A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held in due course.”
