Murdered Justin McLaughlin's classmates offered support as school 'shocked and sadden' at tragedy

Classmates of Justin McLaughlin are to be offered support following his death over the weekend.

The 14-year-old was killed at Glasgow's High Street station on Saturday in what has been described as a 'shocking act of violence'.

Justin was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after being injured in the altercation but his life sadly couldn't be saved.

The headteacher of St Ambrose High School in Coatbridge has spoken of the shock felt by the school community and has said that Justin's classmates will be supported through the difficult months ahead.

He said: "The community of St Ambrose High School is shocked and saddened by the death of Justin McLaughlin.

"Justin was a valued member of our community and his loss will be felt by staff and pupils alike.

"Our prayers and thoughts are with his family and friends, and additional pastoral support will be available to young people within the school on their return on Monday morning."

The coach of the teenager's football team also left a heartbreaking message following his passing.

Coach Garry wrote: "You will remain in our hearts forever. The greatest goalkeepers for St Francis of Assisi.

"You will be remembered in our hearts. A life taken too soon.

"May you rest in peace, love, and God's blessing."

Police Scotland has described the attack as a "shocking act of violence".

DCI Geddes added: "Our thoughts very much remain with Justin's family and friends.

"His family has asked for their privacy to be respected at this very difficult time and they are being supported by specialist officers.

"Although inquiries are at an early stage, what we do know is that an incident took place at High Street train station and we are sure that there will be people who may have witnessed something in the lead up to this.

"The area would have been busy with members of the public and commuters and we are urging those who have any information, no matter how small, to get in contact with police."

A fundraiser has been launched to give Justin 'the send off he deserved' with just under £4,700 being raised so far.
