Murdered Dublin dad-to-be shared loving baby scan Facebook post just two hours before horror stabbing

Young Dublin man Glen Osborne became the latest tragic victim of knife-crime in Dublin when he was brutally stabbed to death on Wednesday night in Ballybough.

But just two hours before that, the 20-year-old shared his excitement to family and friends with news that he was about to become a father to a baby boy.

The dad-to-be from Taaffes Place in the area is understood to have been involved in a row that broke out among a group of young people at Ballybough House Flat Complex at around 10pm when he received a fatal blow to his upper body.

A 16-year-old was arrested on Thursday morning in connection with the bloody stabbing and is currently being detained at Mountjoy Garda Station where an incident room was also set up to help Gardai with the case.

It is understood that the youth and the victim had gotten into a fight when the knife was pulled out and used. The arrested teenager is said to have turned himself into gardai on Wednesday night after it happened.

Just hours before that, Glen - or 'Ossie' as he was better known to those who congratulated him on the news - told his future baby boy that he would always be in his life no matter what.

In the now heartbreaking Facebook post of the baby scan, he said: "I just can't wait until you're born, to see you and to get a father and son bond.

"I'll be there for you no matter what and there will be no rent a daddy around you in your life.

"It's wrong [that you are] getting used as a weapon but you'll be born in the next few months and you'll never have me out of your life.

"The love I have for you, it's just mad what's going on but I'll still stand by you no matter what. A little boy you mean everything to me."

People commented underneath in their droves telling Glen how great a dad he would be and well wishes were still in full flow when the alarm was raised and paramedics discovered him with the stab wounds.

He was treated at the scene before being rushed to the Mater Hospital where he died a short time later.

Officers had all entries to the complex cordoned off on Thursday morning as residents inside stood on their porches and looked down at Gardai who had a list of people who were allowed in.

Those same residents now have to deal with the second brutal killing on their doorstep in recent months - living within half a km radius from where the chopped up remains of Keane Mulready's were found.

Eerily, less than three weeks ago Glen had shared another post on his Facebook page which talked about the thoughts of dying young.

He said: "I don't think any parent should outlast their kid in life [but] some circumstances just can't be done".

Close family members and friends have been left devastated following the traumatic news, remembering the young Dubliner who was "robbed of a life".

One close person to Glen said: "Glen, who am I going to give out to, wind up and torment? Can't believe it. Rest in Peace cuz. Look over your mam, you were all she had, and your baby boy when he arrives. Your mam loved you so much and so do we all. RIP."

Another added: "I literally have no words. I am shocked you were robbed of a life. Watch over your mam and baby boy. Please give her the strength to get through this because you were her everything and more. I can’t believe I’m even writing this, my baby I’m heartbroken. I cherish every memory we have together good and bad. Love you always."

A third said: "Well what can I say Ossie hugging and having a laugh with you on Friday night to finding out this sad news. There’s not a dry eye today absolutely shocked isn’t the word, it’s hard to believe.

"Where do I start? From growing up together, going to school together all having the laugh and banter you’d brighten up anyone's day always smiling."

While another close friend added: "What a cruel world. Can't believe the horrible news I'm after hearing, I'm in shock I don't even know what to say. All the memories I have with you Glen I'll cherish them forever.

"You always made me laugh until my belly hurt even though sometimes we couldn't be near each other without fighting, I'll never forget them blue eyes and that cheeky laugh."
