'Murdered' Amber Gibson's pal 'sickened' after memorial flowers set on fire where her body was found

Floral tributes for 'murdered' Amber Gibson have been set on fire at the scene where her body was found.

Heartbroken pals and loved ones created a memorial at the Cadzow Glen Gates park in Hamilton after her death.

The 16-year-old was reported missing from her home in the Lanarkshire town, on November 26.

Her body was discovered near Cadzow Glen two days later.

The memorial site had been lined with bouquets of flowers below the bridge on Cadzow Street.

Shocking images now show the charred remains of tributes left to the teen who would have celebrated her 17th birthday on Saturday.

Loved ones who marked the occasion without the schoolgirl and wished her a happy heavenly birthday have been left distraught just four days later by the sickening vandalism.

Stumps of flowers can be seen within the debris of the fire as just four bouquets remain untouched.

Black soot has spread to the walls under the bridge as well as the path where Amber's flowers were placed.

Among the burnt rubbish left on the ground, including cans and bottles, is what appears to be the remains of a blue wheelie bin.

It is not known if flowers left in tribute were used to keep the blaze alight or if the fire spread to the memorial site.

The horrific scene was discovered by Amber's devastated friend on the same day a second man was arrested in connection with her death.

The close friend of Amber's said she had been left 'sickened' after discovering floral tributes had been set on fire.

She told the Daily Record: "Someone has set Amber's memorial flowers on fire.

"It makes me sick.

"The flowers were put there when Cadzow was opened back up and people have been putting them down ever since.

"I don’t know who would do it but it’s honestly so disrespectful it makes me so angry."

Last month Amber's 19-year-old brother, Connor, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court charged with sexual assault, murder and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

He made no plea and was remanded in custody.

A second man has also been arrested in connection with the death of teenager Amber Gibson.

The 43–year-old is in police custody and is due to appear in court on Wednesday.

The Daily Record contacted Scottish Fire and Rescue for comment.
