Murder victim and accused named as man to appear in court over woman's death

A man has been charged with the murder of a woman on New Year's Day.

Police found the body of the 46-year-old victim when they responded to concerns for the safety of a woman at a home in Stockbridge Village.

The discovery sparked the launch of a murder investigation, with the Custley Hey property that formed the centre of the probe cordoned off and forensics officers called in to examine the scene.

A 48-year-old man was taken into custody for questioning by murder squad detectives while specialist support was given to the victim's family.

Piotr Cichy, of Custley Hey, has now been charged with murder in connection with the investigation and is due to appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court this morning.

Court documents state that he is accused of the murder of Magdalena Pacult, a person "one year of age or older".

A Home Office post mortem has confirmed the cause of death was "blunt force trauma, mechanical asphyxiation".
