Murder suspect remains in hospital three months after being hit by train

A murder suspect remains in hospital three months after being hit by a train.

The response to the rail incident led to the discovery of a pensioner's body and detectives wishing to question the injured man.

But they have been unable to do so because of the severity of his condition.

Emergency services were called after the 47-year-old was struck by a train near Kirkdale station on Friday, January 29.

The inquiries that followed led to police attending a home on Folkestone Road in Southport, where the body of Rose Marie Tinton was discovered.

The 77-year-old's death sparked the launch of an investigation and the arrest of the man hit by the train on suspicion of murder.

But three months into the probe the suspect remains in hospital and has not yet been questioned due to his injuries.

Police have said Mrs Tinton and the suspect were known to each other.

Searches and forensic enquiries have since been carried out at the Southport home while a post-mortem examination has taken place in a bid to establish the cause of Mrs Tinton's death. The results are currently being withheld pending further reports.

Mrs Tinton, more commonly known as Marie, has been described as "warm hearted" and "gentle" since her death.
