'Murder' suspect appears in court after man found dead at Glasgow flats

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of Barry Mclachlan after the 33-year-old was found dead in a stairwell.

Andrew Palfreman made no plea during the private hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Tuesday, July 6.

The 26-year-old was remanded in custody pending a further court appearance within the next eight days.

Tragic Barry was formally identified by Police Scotland earlier today following his suspicious death on Saturday.

His body was discovered within a common close in Knapdale Street, Lambhill, at around 2am sparking a major probe.

Detective Inspector Peter Crombie, senior investigating officer, said: "Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of Barry and officers are providing support at this difficult time for them.

“I would like to thank members of the local community for their assistance in this enquiry and to reassure them there is no threat to the wider public.”

Tributes to Barry, who was affectionately known as ‘Big Baz’, have poured in on social media with a funeral fundraiser launched by devastated pals.
