Murder scene cleaners reveal chilling work that goes into removing all traces of death

A team of cleaners who tackle the work no-one else wants to have revealed the chilling steps that go into cleaning a murder scene.

Wojciech, Jacob and his father were called to a rented property in Bilston, West Midlands, after one man bludgeoned another to death.

Despite the police force's best efforts to clear up, they were warned that gruesome signs of the struggle remained.

Greeted by a threadbare sofa covered crimson stains, pools of dried blood could be seen crusted to the carpet.

Upstairs the walls were smeared with dripping blood, and even a blood-stained laptop was found hidden in a suitcase.

But while property owner Wayne was deeply disturbed by the confronting scenes, Jacob explained how he's learned to switch off from his surroundings.

"I just come in and do my job," he tells Channel 5's Grime and Punishment, which airs tonight.

Unfazed, he continues, "This is the first time I have been placed where somebody has been murdered. It's crazy but it's life."

Wearing industrial-strength gloves to protect them from broken glass or needles, The cleaners begin by shoveling the mounds of rubbish straight into builders' bags.

They sweep mounds of discarded plastic bottles into bin bags and scrap every last piece of furniture to gut the place.

Once the building is emptied, the flooring is removed with all carpets and laminates pulled up to erase all traces of the gory crime.

But for Wayne, who once lived in the house himself, he admits he'll never be able to forget what took place.

"The guy hit another guy over the head repeatedly with a blunt force trauma - that's anew word I learned - and apparently there was blood everywhere," he says.

"It's certainly going to be in the back of my head that this has happened here."

Grime and Punishment airs tonight on Channel 5 at 8pm.
