Murder probe launched following death of woman in Ayr

Police have launched a murder probe following the death of a woman in Ayr.

The body of the 41 year-old was discovered at a property after officers were called to Nursery Hall at 10.15am on Monday morning.

Detectives have now confirmed they are treating the death as murder following the completion of a post mortem examination.

Cops from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team are leading the probe.

Detective Chief Inspector Peter Sharp said: “An extensive investigation is underway, including officers carrying out door-to-door enquiries.

“Officers are also working to find out the last time the deceased was seen and the circumstances leading up to her death.

“Anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, should contact us immediately. If you were in the area over the weekend and have dash-cam or private CCTV footage that could assist then please get in touch.

“It is important that we find out more about what has happened as soon as we can and I would like to reassure the community that officers are working to trace whoever is responsible.

Additional police patrols are in the area and members of the public are encouraged to speak to a police officer if they have any concerns.”

Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 0920 of Monday, 27 March, 2023, or please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
