Murder investigation launched following death of man in Scottish town

A MURDER investigation has been launched following the death of a man in Airdrie.

Emergency services were called to the town's Hamilton Drive at around 12.15am on Thursday, September 18, following a report of two men being found injured.

A 30-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 27-year-old man was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

Officers are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward and a police presence will remain in the area as their investigation continues.

According to reports, there was a large police presence on Hamilton Drive and neighbouring Wheatholm Street on Thursday, with a blue forensic tend seen in the front garden of one house.

Detective Chief Inspector Bob Williamson, from the Major Investigation Team, said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who has died.

"We are providing them with support as our investigation continues.

"An extensive investigation is being carried out, including door-to-door enquiries and we are examining CCTV footage of the area.

"We urge anyone with any information to contact us.

"Please think back – do you remember seeing or hearing anything whilst in the area?

"Any information, no matter how small it may seem, could be vital."

Chief Inspector Lesley Docherty, Local Area Commander, continued: "We understand the significant impact this will have on the community and we would like to thank everyone for their help so far.

"We would like to reassure you that everything is being done to trace who is responsible.

"Officers remain in the area as enquiries continue.

"Anyone with any concerns can speak to officers.

An online portal has also been set up where members of the public can submit information directly to officers HERE .

Information can also be passed to police by calling 101 and quoting incident number 0037 of Thursday, September 18.
