Murder probe launched after tragic four-month-old baby girl dies in hospital

Police have launched a murder investigation after a four-month-old girl died in hospital just days after being discovered seriously injured.

The little girl was rushed to Blackpool Victoria Hospital after the alarm was raised at a property in the city last Thursday.

Medics transferred the critically ill baby to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool for further treatment but she sadly lost her fight for life on Sunday.

Lancashire Police confirmed the little girl’s tragic passing and have charged a 28-year-old man with attempted murder.

Jordan Lee, of Onslow Road, has appeared in court and remanded in custody when he appeared at Preston Magistrates Court on Saturday.

A decision will be made in due course in consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service on any further charges, said police.

A Home Office post-mortem examination will be carried out to try and establish the baby's cause of death.

Detective Inspector Mark Dickinson, of the force's major investigation team, said: "My thoughts remain very much with this baby's wider family and they are being supported by specialist officers.

"While a man has been charged, our investigation is very much ongoing and I would appeal for anyone with information to contact us."

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting log 1135 of December 3rd 2020 or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
