Murder probe launched after one-year-old baby boy found with head injury dies in hospital

A murder investigation has been launched after a one-year-old baby found with a head injury died in hospital.

Merseyside Police were called to an address on Belford Way in Speke at around 6pm on Friday night by paramedics from North West Ambulance Service.

They were called to reports a baby had suffered a head injury.

Today, police said the child has sadly died and a 23-year-old man from Winsford, Cheshire, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

He remains in custody for questioning.

The child's family are being supported by specialist officers and a Home Office Post Mortem to conclude the cause of death is taking place today.

Yesterday, neighbours told the Liverpool ECHO a woman in her 20s lived at the address with her child.

Speaking about the woman who lived at the house, one neighbour said: "She’s a lovely girl, always smiling. I’ve seen her taking the little boy to nursery.

"Police scientific services were here last night. It’s worrying not knowing what’s gone on."

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact @MerPolCC or 101 with reference 19100375517 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
