Murder probe launched after man, 29, dies following stabbing in High Road, Whetstone

Police have launched a murder investigation after a man stabbed in a high street brawl died in hospital.

Officers were scrambled to High Road, Whetstone, Barnet, after reports of a fight that at least one person filmed, police said.

They found a victim, 29, suffering from multiple knife wounds and he was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Police said his “distraught family” were waiting for him to recover by his hospital bedside where he died at around 11.15 on Saturday June 19.

Five men aged 27 to 55 were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the killing which happened at 10.24pm on Thursday. They were later all released either on bail or under investigation.

A further five men, three aged 29 and a 27 and 28-year-old were arrested on suspicion of affray and have been bailed.

Detective Inspector Jonathan Newell is investigating. He said: “Our investigation is fast-paced and progressing quickly. We have made a substantial number of arrests but there is still much more work to do.

“The public can help us. I believe there was at least one person who filmed this incident on their mobile phone. I need those people to contact us - it is imperative that we know everything about the events that led up to it.”
