Murder probe launched after inmate found dead in prison near Glasgow

Police have launched a murder probe after the death of a prisoner at a jail near Glasgow.

Prison bosses called officers to Low Moss, in Bishopbriggs, after a 47-year-old inmate was found dead in his cell on Monday (January 6).

The death of Darren Brownlie is being treated as suspicious and a murder enquiry has been launched.

Four men were arrested on suspicion of assault but have since been released.

A source told the Daily Record: "Police and forensics have been inside the prison and a blue tent was erected around the cell concerned.

"The hall was put on lockdown."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police Scotland were made aware that a 47-year-old man had died at HMP Low Moss prison on Monday, January 6.

Following post-mortem examinations, we are treating the death as suspicious and a murder enquiry has been launched.

A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal."
