Murder probe launched after body of Scots dad found next to burning motorbike near Edinburgh

The death of a man whose body was found next to a burning motorbike is being treated as murder.

Tragic Craig Sneddon was discovered by officers responding to reports of a motorbike on fire in a field near to the Edinburgh city bypass last month.

The 41-year-old was found on a path in woodland off Hadfast Road, close to the A68 road near Cousland, at around 9.20am on Sunday, January 17.

A police spokesperson said: “The death of a man in Midlothian on Sunday, 17 January is now being treated as murder.

“He has now been formally identified as 41-year-old Craig Sneddon, from Wallyford, East Lothian.”

Hundreds of tributes were posted online to Craig, who is understood to have had one child.

A 24-year-old man appeared in private at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday 27 January accused of murder and made no plea.

He was remanded in custody.
