A murder probe has been launched after the discovery of a body belonging to a man at a house in Cork city on Saturday morning.
The body was found at a premises on the Bandon Road on Cork's south side around 11:30am and following a post mortem, gardai have since launched a full murder investigation.
The man has been named locally as Paul Jones, 55, who is originally from Mayfield, on the north side of Cork city.
Mr Jones' body was discovered by his son who called to the house after he received no answer when trying to contact his father by phone.
It is understood that emergency services found blood near Mr Jones body, but there was no signs of forced entry into the house.
In a statement, gardai said: "The post mortem examination has now been completed on the body of the man in his 50s who was discovered in a house on the Bandon Rd in Cork City yesterday morning, Saturday 7 September 2019.
"For operational reasons investigating Gardaí are not releasing the details of the post mortem.
"A full murder investigation has now been launched.
"Investigating Gardaí are renewing their appeal for information and are anxious to speak to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the Bandon Road / McCurtain Villas area of Cork City between Monday 2 September and Saturday 7 September 2019 and to anyone who may have dash cam footage to please contact the incident room at Anglesea Street on 021-4522000, the Garda Confidential Line 1 800 666 111 or any Garda Station."
