Murder probe after man in 20s shot in north-west London

A man was shot by armed police last night

A murder probe has been launched after a man was shot in north-west London.

The investigation comes after police - including armed officers - and London Ambulance Service paramedics were called to reports of a shooting in Hansel Road, NW6, shortly after midnight on Wednesday.

A man, believed to be aged in his twenties, was found to have been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

A crime scene remains in place while enquiries by homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command are ongoing, the force added.

No arrests have been made yet.

Chief Superintendent Roy Smith, borough commander for the North West Basic Command Unit, said: “Firstly my thoughts are with the victim’s family and loved ones and I know colleagues will be working hard to support them.

“Officers from every part of the Met are out on our streets using every tactic available to stop mindless violence like this. I am incredibly proud of and grateful to colleagues from both the Met and London Ambulance Service who rushed towards danger to try and save this young man’s life – as they would do for any one of us.

“We can only combat violence like this by working together and we really do need your help and support. Officers will be out on patrol in the local area over the coming days and I would ask that you stop and talk with them if you have any information which might assist our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting CAD140/12Aug, or tweet @MetCC. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously by calling 0800 555 111 or online at Crimestoppers-uk.org.
