Murder probe after 66-year-old woman found dead in south east London home

A murder probe has been launched after a woman's body was found in a house in south east London.

Scotland Yard were called to Becketts Close, Bexley, after the 66-year-old woman was found collapsed on Tuesday evening.

Officer and the London Ambulance Service (LAS) attended shortly after 9pm and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is being treated as suspicious and next of kin have been informed. Formal identification and a post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.

A man was arrested on suspicion of murder and was taken to a south London police station, where he remains.

The man and the woman are believed to be known to each other.

Detective Chief Inspector Mick Norman said: “We are at the very early stages of our investigation, we have arrested a man and our enquiries continue at a pace.

“Our thoughts are with the deceased’s family at this sad time. I urge anyone who has information, but has not yet come forward, to get in touch without delay.”
