Murder 'not ruled out' after suspicious death of 73yo Townsville woman

A section of Brampton Avenue has been cordoned off by police.

A crime scene is in place around a home in Townsville in north Queensland as police continue to investigate the suspicious death of a 73-year-old woman.

A team including 15 detectives, forensics and uniformed police are involved in the investigation.

Police received a triple-0 call on Monday morning to say the body of the woman had been found at the home on Brampton Avenue in the suburb of Cranbrook.

They will not say how they think the woman died or whether there are any suspects.

Detective Acting Inspector Phil Watts said they had not ruled out murder.

"We're not ruling anything out at this time — any scenario is still open at this point of time," he said.

"That's why we're taking some time to fully forensically examine the scene."

An autopsy will be carried out on the woman's body.

A woman, believed to a relative of the deceased, arrived at the scene and had to comforted by officers.

Detective Acting Inspector Watts said it was a distressing incident.

"We're spoken to next of kin and they're quite upset about the death of a loved one," he said.

"We'll offer whatever support we can."
