Murder investigation launched after woman found dead at garages in Blackheath

A murder investigation has been launched after the body of a woman was discovered in south east London.

Officers were called to a set of garages in Prendergast Road, Blackheath, at 5pm on Friday after the body was discovered.

The identity of the woman is yet to be formally established but the family of a woman reported missing on May 15 have been informed.

A post-mortem examination held at Greenwich mortuary on Sunday did not establish cause of death, which officers are treating as suspicious.

A murder investigation has been launched by the Homicide and Major Crime Command.

Detective Chief Inspector David Blair, who is leading the investigation, said: “Although cause of death has not been determined, the woman who was sadly found deceased has injuries suggestive of third party involvement.

“The identity of the victim has not been formally established but we are liaising with the family of a woman in her 50’s from south London who was reported as a missing person.

“At this stage we are working hard to establish the circumstances of the woman’s death, which is being investigated as a murder.

“Please contact my team if you have information which could help our enquiries.”

There have been no arrests at this time.

A crime scene remains in place as enquiries into the full circumstances continue.

Anyone with information concerning this murder is asked to call police on 0208 721 4961 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111.
