Murder investigation launched after woman, 58, found dead in her home in east London

Police have launched a murder investigation after a woman was found dead at her home in Ilford.

Officers were called to an address in Applegarth Drive around 4am on Tuesday and found a 58-year-old woman dead at the property.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said they believe they have identified the victim but are working to notify next-of-kin.

A 57-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. He was taken into custody, where he remains.

Detective Inspector Nikki Hardy, from Specialist Crime North, said: “Our thoughts are with the woman’s loved ones at this unimaginably difficult time.

“We acknowledge the distress this news is likely to cause in the local community, and are working hard to establish exactly what happened.

“We can confirm a suspect is in custody, and that we are not seeking anyone else at this early stage of the investigation.”

Anyone with information is urged to call 101, quoting crime reference 761/27JAN.
