A 26-year-old man has died in hospital three days after a group of pedestrians were hit by a car in Nottinghamshire.

Police said a murder inquiry is under way after Tyler Fairman was pronounced dead on Tuesday.

Mr Fairman, a footballer with non-league side Woodthorpe Park Rangers, was one of several pedestrians injured after a red Vauxhall Astra mounted a kerb and struck a group of people in Arnold, near Nottingham, in the early hours of Saturday.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Nottinghamshire Police said Mr Fairman was taken immediately to hospital but died “despite the best efforts of medical professionals”.

Duane Anthony, 40, was arrested on Saturday evening and appeared in court on Monday charged with five counts of attempted murder.

He was also charged with aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified and driving without valid insurance, and has been remanded into custody to reappear at Nottingham Crown Court on June 8.

Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow, who is leading the investigation, said: “As we release the sad news of Tyler’s death, our first thoughts go to his family and loved ones at this difficult time.

“Both they and the other people injured or affected by this collision continue to be supported by specially trained police officers.

“We can also confirm today that this is now a murder investigation.

“As such, criminal proceedings are active, so anything relating to this incident should be shared with the police, not online, as doing so could potentially impede the pursuit of justice.

“We are aware of videos of the incident circulating on social media and have informed the victims and their families of this.

“They have appealed to anyone who has shared or posted any such videos to take them down immediately so that Tyler’s family can grieve in peace.”

Woodthorpe Park Rangers has previously said that three members of its team, including the manager, were struck by a car following an end-of-season awards night.

In a statement on X, formerly Twitter, the club posted: “Rest in peace TY. Forever our number 6.”
