Detectives investigating the mysterious death of a man in Brixton Hill have launched a murder probe.

The man’s body was discovered with multiple injuries during the early hours of Monday on New Park Road in Lambeth, south London.

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service shortly before 7am and found the 44-year-old man already deceased.

His death was initially treated as suspicious before the investigation escalated to murder.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “A 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder on Wednesday, 14 July. He remains in custody at a south London police station.”

The victim’s next of kin have been informed of his death and are being supported by specialist officers.

Formal identification is yet to take place.

A special post-mortem examination held at Greenwich Mortuary gave the provisional cause of death as multiple injuries.

Detectives from the Specialist Crime Command are leading the investigation.
