Murder investigation launched after man shot dead in north Belfast

A murder investigation has been launched after a man was shot dead in north Belfast.

Police cordoned off part of the Cliftonville Road on Tuesday night.

There were reports of more than half a dozen shots being fired close to Manor Street, Belfast Live reports.

And the PSNI have now officially launched a murder investigation after confirming that a man was killed in the incident.

A spokesman said: "Detectives have launched a murder investigation following a report of a shooting in North Belfast tonight, Tuesday February 2.

"We received a report around 8.15pm that a man had been shot in the Cliftonville Road area of the city.

"Officers attended, along with colleagues from the NIAS. Sadly, a man has been pronounced dead."

SDLP Councillor Paul McCusker said: "Receiving reports of a shooting incident on the Cliftonville Road, North Belfast.

"The road beside Manor street has been cordoned off by police and waiting on an update from police to understand what has happened here.

"If anyone needs any assistance please get in contact."

What to do in an emergency situation

Sinn Féin MLA Caral Ni Chuilín said: “There are reports that a man has been shot and injured in the Cliftonville Road area of North Belfast tonight.

“The local community are deeply shocked by this incident.

“I am appealing to any witnesses to this shooting to come forward to police and assist their investigation.”
