Murder investigation launched after man's body found in allotments

Police have launched a murder investigation after a man's body was found at an allotment.

He was found at around 10am on Sunday, January 26 off Prospect Drive, Shirebrook.

The man suffered injuries that would suggest he was assaulted, according to police, following a post-mortem examination.

A formal identification has not yet taken place and enquiries are ongoing to identify the man’s family.

No arrests have yet been made as police continue to appeal for witnesses into the murder probe.

Detective Inspector Chris Marriott, of Derbyshire Constabulary, said: “We are appealing to anyone that may have heard any noise or disturbance between 10.30pm on Saturday, 25 January and 10.30am on Sunday, 26 January around the Prospect Drive area to contact us.

“We would also like anyone who lives in the area that might have CCTV or dash cam footage to contact us.”

Anyone with any information that may help our enquiries is asked to contact us quoting reference number 20*49022 using the following methods.

You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
