A murder investigation has been launched in Norther Ireland after a man was reportedly stabbed to death.
Detectives have arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of murder after a 53-year-old man was allegedly attacked at a property on Beatrice Road in Bangor. Co. Down.
He was pronounced dead at the scene in the early hours of Wednesday, Belfast Live reports.
Residents in the street say the victim had lived there for around 2 months.
Local residents have also told of their shock at waking up to the horrific murder.
One resident told of his shock at waking to see police tape cordoning off a section in the street. Some said the police activity overnight woke them.
Detective Chief Inspector Michelle Shaw said: “We received a report, just after midnight, that a man in his 50s had been attacked at a property on Beatrice Road. Officers attended but sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. A murder investigation is now under way.
“Our enquiries are at any early stage and I would appeal to anyone with any information that can assist our investigation, or anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area around that time, to contact us on 101 quoting reference number 2211 of 14/07/21.
"Information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous."
Alliance MLA for North Down Andrew Muir said in a statement: "Shocking news a man has been murdered in Bangor just after midnight last night.
"My thoughts are with his friends and family following this horrendous murder. Anyone with any information should contact the PSNI."
In a separate case, a woman who was killed in Northern Ireland on Monday night has been named by police.
Kathleen 'Katie' Brankin, 37, from Newtownabbey, was killed at an outdoor accommodation site on Seacoast Road in Limavady on July 12.
Detectives are continuing to question a 53-year-old man on suspicion of her murder, who was also a holidaymaker at the site.
Police say officers are not currently looking for anyone else in relation to the death.
A PSNI spokesperson said: "Anyone with information, or who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area around that time of the murder is urged to contact the investigation team on 101 quoting reference number 2211 of 12/07/21."
