Police have launched a murder investigation after a 78-year-old man was found dead in Southwark on Wednesday.

Officers were called at 11:55am on May 12 to reports of an injured and unresponsive man found at an address in Jamaica Road in Bermondsey, south east London.

Met Police and London Ambulance Service attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A special post mortem examination which took place on Thursday, May 13, established the cause of death as a head injury.

The investigation is ongoing, but no arrests have been made.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward immediately.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact the incident room on 020 8721 4005; on 101 or tweet @MetCC and quote CAD 2823/12May. Alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
