Police have charged a 36-year-old man with murder after a woman was found dead at a house in Brisbane's north on Thursday afternoon.

The 56-year-old woman's body was found at her home on Winter Road, Kallangur, after police were called to a disturbance about 12:50pm.

The man, who is also from Kallangur but is not believed to reside at the house, was taken into custody on Thursday afternoon and was charged later in the day.

Moreton District Detective Inspector Ben Fadian said officers attending the house had found a "very confronting" scene, adding that both the man and woman were known to each other.

"They are relatives, there is no domestic violence order in place, and police have been to that address before for other matters," Detective Inspector Fadian said.

The man will remain in police custody and will appear before the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on Friday.

Police are asking for information or dash cam footage from anyone on Duffield Road and Winter Road, Kallangur, between 9am and 1pm on Thursday.
