Murder investigation launched after 38-year-old woman dies as a result of her injuries in Pontypridd

A murder investigation has been launched by police after a 38-year-old woman died in Pontypridd as a result of her injuries.

South Wales Police has arrested a 37-year-old man on suspicion of her murder.

There was a large police presence in Llys Graig Y Wion throughout the day and a house was sealed off in the street after officers were called to the area at about 8.10am on Sunday.

In a statement, the police force said: "A 38-year-old woman died as a result of injuries sustained and a 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of her murder.

"There has been a significant police presence, including armed officers, at several scenes in the area during the day and we would like to thank local residents for their cooperation."

Senior investigating officer, DCI Darren George of the major crime investigation team, added: "At this moment in time we are not currently looking for anybody else in connection with this matter and I would like to thank the local community for their patience throughout today.

"We would ask anyone with information on this incident to call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting occurrence 1900369431."
