Murder detectives want to speak to four Merseyside men over death of man in church grounds

Detectives investigating the murder of a man in the gardens of a church have released CCTV of four men they want to speak to.

Greater Manchester Police shared the images of four men, all believed to be from the Merseyside area, who they want to speak to in relation to the murder of Steven McMyler.

Mr McMyler, 34, was fatally kicked in the head while being attacked in the gardens of Wigan Parish Church shortly before 7.50pm on Thursday, August 6.

He died at the scene and a murder investigation was launched by Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

Sharing a set of CCTV images on their Facebook page today, GMP say officers are keen to speak to four men they believe may hold significant information about the incident.

The men are believed to have travelled to Wigan from the Merseyside area and are seen pictured walking past a Chinese takeaway on Wallgate moments before Steven was attacked.

They were earlier pictured that evening at Southport train station and anyone with any information about the identity of the men is encouraged to contact police.

Detective Inspector Wes Knights, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “This is a fast-moving investigation and we are quickly piecing together the circumstances of the incident.

“The public’s response on this so far has been terrific and I continue to encourage them to come forward and provide us with vital information that can ultimately help give Steven’s family and loved ones the answers they so desperately need at this tragic time.

“A dedicated portal has been set up for the public to share their information with the investigation team and to also view other assets on there that could lead to further useful evidence coming to light.

“If you recognise the men we are particularly focused on speaking to, or you know any other details can could prove significant in our investigation, I urge you to do the right thing and get in touch.”
