Murder cops arrest man after woman found critically injured in Fife woods

A young woman is fighting for her life in hospital after being attacked in a Fife woodland.

Police have launched an attempted murder probe after the 23-year-old was found badly hurt near Broad Street, Cowdenbeath, at around 6.10pm on Sunday.

She was raced to hospital by ambulance and remains in a critical but stable condition.

Officers have arrested a man, 22, in connection with the incident.

A heavy police presence remained at the scene on Monday with the area cordoned off by officers.

Investigators are keen to speak to any witnesses who were in the area, which is popular with dog walkers, last night.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A report was received of a 23-year-old woman who was found injured in a wooded area off Broad Street in Cowdenbeath around 6.10pm on Sunday, 30 August.

"She has been taken to hospital for treatment, where she is in a critical but stable condition.

"A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident, which is being treated as attempted murder, and enquiries are ongoing.

"Anyone with information, particularly anyone who is in the area around Broad Street or the wooded area around that time, can contact police on 101, quoting incident 3090 of 30 August, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
