Murder charges filed in Lawndale road rage shooting

Liltony M. Van | Chicago police department

A man is charged in the shooting death of Marquist Boyd last week in Lawndale on the Southwest Side.

Liltony M. Van, 22, is charged with one felony count of first-degree murder, and on Friday was denied bail, according to the Cook County records.

On Aug. 24, Van and Boyd began arguing with each other about 9:45 a.m. following a traffic incident, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Boyd was allegedly armed with a baseball bat during the altercation, and Van allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot him in the head, authorities said.

The incident happened in the 2200 block of South Kirkland Avenue, police said.

Boyd was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead the next day at 5:12 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said. He lived in the same block where he was shot.

Van is being held without bail, court records show. He was scheduled to appear in court again on Sept. 6.

In 2017, Van was charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle.
