Murder charge over body found in WA dam

Dinh Lam Nguyen's body was discovered after his car was found burnt out in nearby bushland. (AAP)

Police have charged a man with the murder of Dinh Lam Nguyen, whose body was found wrapped in plastic inside a wheelie bin in a West Australian dam.

Members of the public discovered the body of Mr Nguyen, 51, inside the partially submerged bin on Monday afternoon at Glen Brook Dam in the John Forrest National Park, east of Perth.

A 28-year-old man from Mahogany Creek will face Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with murder, WA Police said in a statement.

It comes after Mr Nguyen's car was found burnt out in bushland in nearby Chidlow.

Detectives received information that helped them find the vehicle after publicly identifying Mr Nguyen on Wednesday.

It is believed Mr Nguyen, who was known to police, was last seen on January 20 in Balga, where he lived.

Police on Wednesday said Mr Nguyen was reported missing by an associate on January 22, but the information provided at the time "did not suggest he was in any imminent danger".

"Inquiries conducted by police in relation to the missing person report over the following days did not identify any possible locations where Mr Nguyen may have travelled," WA Police said in a statement.

Homicide detectives appealed for information regarding his movements in the days before his body being discovered, as well as the location of his car.
