Murder charge laid over woman's death in Darwin

A 50-year-old man has been charged with murder and domestic violence offences after a woman was found dead in Darwin on Friday.

The body of a 48-year-old Aboriginal woman was found inside an apartment at a Progress Drive unit block in Coconut Grove shortly before 8:00pm on Friday.

NT Police said the man had been arrested Sunday and charged later in the evening.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Morrissey said NT Police had been door-knocking in the area over the weekend and thanked the public and NTES volunteers for their assistance in the search.

“Domestic violence is abhorrent and something we as a community should have no tolerance for.

"If you or anyone you know is a victim of domestic and family violence, please reach out for help."

NT Police said the man had been remanded in custody and was scheduled to appear before the Darwin Local Court on Monday.
