Man charged with murder of wife who drowned in Adelaide pond

Peter Dansie appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court and was refused bail.

A man has been charged with the murder of his 67-year-old wife who drowned in an Adelaide parklands pond.

South Australian Police have charged 68-year-old Peter Dansie with the drowning death of Helen Dansie, who was in a wheelchair, at Veale Gardens in April.

Her body was retrieved from water about one-and-a-half metres deep, along with her wheelchair.

Dansie appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday afternoon and applied for bail.

Defence lawyer Pat Amey argued he was not likely to abscond due to his poor health, including diabetes.

"He's got a heart condition, he's on extensive medication," Mr Amey said.

But prosecutor Sarah Attar told the court the murder was a "planned, premeditated act".

She said police had since found Ms Dansie's ashes in the boot of her husband's car covered in rubbish.

"It showed the disregard he had for her life," Ms Attar said.

The prosecution also told the court Dansie had told police he could not help his wife out of the pond because she was too heavy, however divers had been able to flip her "easily".

The court also heard Dansie had a spare set of dry clothes on him when the incident took place and he had left his watch in his car and wallet and phone under a nearby tree.

Dansie was refused bail and is expected to face court again in September.
