Murder charge laid after Helen Jeremy Solomon Marsuk found dead in South Fremantle harbour

A 21-year-old Gosnells man has faced court charged with murder after the body of a young woman was found in a South Fremantle harbour last weekend.

Muhammad Abdur Rehman Mirza is accused of murdering 25-year-old Helen Jeremy Solomon Marsuk on Thursday, December 1, in the southern Perth suburb of Gosnells.

He has also been charged with wilfully destroying evidence and interfering with the woman's corpse.

A member of the public found Ms Marsuk's remains in the water near the groyne on Cape D'Orlando Drive, in the early hours of Sunday, December 4 — three days after Mr Mirza is alleged to have killed her.

He has also been accused of destroying personal items, clothes, a knife and a mobile phone in the days after the alleged murder, and moving the corpse with the intention of preventing or prejudicing an investigation.

Accused remanded in custody

Mr Mirza made a brief appearance at the Armadale Magistrates Court to hear the charges.

He has been remanded in custody and is next due to appear via video link in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on January 4.

Police publicly identified Ms Marsuk on Wednesday as they attempted to trace her steps from November 30 to the date of her death.

They said they believed Ms Marsuk had been near Oat Street in Carlisle on November 30.

Detectives said on Sunday the circumstances in which Ms Marsuk's body was found raised "significant concerns".

"We believe the circumstances surrounding the lady's death and … the location in the harbour raise suspicion and the homicide squad are investigating at this point," Detective Senior Sergeant Greg McDonald said.
