A 30-year-old man has been charged with murder in relation to the death of a 70-year-old following an alleged home invasion on the Central Coast this week.
Emergency services responded to reports of a home invasion on Trigg Road at Chittaway Bay about 8.45pm on Tuesday.
Police said they were told a man had entered the home before a 70-year-old male resident was "seriously assaulted" with a baseball bat.
The younger man is then alleged to have fled.
The resident suffered head injuries was taken to Gosford Hospital in a critical condition. Despite efforts to revive him, he died a short time later.
Two other occupants - a 67-year-old woman and 10-year-old girl - were also home at the time and were not injured.
A crime scene was established and officers from Tuggerah Lakes Police District, with assistance from the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad, commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Following inquiries, police executed a search warrant at a home on Lorraine Avenue, Berkeley Vale about 12pm Wednesday and seized a number of items.
While at the address, a 30-year-old man arrived and upon sighting police, is alleged to have ran from the scene.
He was arrested nearby. Police said they found and seized a baseball bat and jacket which they claim were discarded in a neighbouring garden.
The man was taken to Wyong Police Station and charged with murder.
He was refused bail to appear in Wyong Local Court on Thursday.
