Murder charge filed in East Chicago shooting

A Gary man is accused of fatally shooting someone earlier this month in northwest Indiana.

Angel Zamot, 22, is charged with one count of murder in the slaying of Jacque Anderson, the Lake County Sheriff’s office said.

Zamot was taken into custody Tuesday morning after a no bail warrant was issued the day before, according to county records.

He is accused of fatally shooting Jacque Anderson July 5 as he sat in a vehicle outside a gas station in the 1400 block of Carrol Street, the sheriff’s office said.

Someone called police and said Zamot killed Anderson in a drug deal, the Post-Tribune reported.

Anderson was taken to St. Catherine’s Hospital in East Chicago, where he died, according to the Lake County coroner’s office .

Zamot is being held at the Lake County Jail, the sheriff’s office said.
