Murder charge downgraded in case of Eden Waugh's death

One of the people accused of the murder of Watson man Eden Waugh has had his charges downgraded.

Tavake Lee Pikula, 31, was charged last year with the murder of 37-year-old Eden Waugh in November 2016.

Mr Waugh died after he was shot in the chest at his apartment in Canberra's north.

It is understood he was killed in front of his girlfriend.

In a surprise move last month police charged another man — 22-year-old Ainslie man Peter Forster Jones — with the murder.

Today prosecutors downgraded the charge against Mr Pikula to being knowingly concerned in the murder, rather than murder.

Previously, officers retrieved a shotgun and a crowbar from the Queanbeyan River, in what they said was a search linked to the investigation.

The case will be back in court in May.
