Murder charge after victim allegedly stabbed in the neck

Police were on the scene on Monday morning.

A man has been charged with murder after allegedly stabbing another man in the neck in a car park early on Monday.

In a statement on Tuesday afternoon, Tasmania Police said they had charged a 31-year old man with one count of murder in relation to the death of a 34-year-old man in Carbeen Street, Mornington, on Hobart's Eastern Shore in the early hours of yesterday morning.

"The man will appear in after-hours court later today, where police will allege the cause of death was a fatal stab wound to the neck," police said.

Police received a call for assistance relating to a "disturbance" at about 2:50 on Monday morning.

Today, police said they believe it to be an "isolated incident" and that "both parties were known to one another".

Anyone with information should contact Bellerive CIB on 131 444 or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at the Crime Stoppers website.
