Murder bid victim in 'induced coma' after being found unconscious in close

Police have launched an attempted murder investigation after a man was found unconscious in a common close.

The 32-year-old is in critical condition at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital following the incident in Rutherglen on Saturday night.

Emergency services raced to the scene at Castlefern Road around 9.15pm after receiving reports of a man in distress.

The Rutherglen Reformer reports the victim had a number of injuries and has been placed in an induced coma.

A source told the paper: "The man was badly injured and lying unconscious in the close when the police arrived.

"The paramedics were there too, and they took away in the ambulance.

"Police went door to door afterwards.

"Things like that don't happen around here. It's awful, everyone is shocked."

Police have appealed to potential witnesses to contact them immediately.

A spokesman said: "Enquiries as to how he came about his injuries are ongoing."
