Murder arrest: man held 'known to victim'

Merseyside police arrested a man after the body of a woman was found.

Officers were called to a house on Radway Road, Huyton, to reports a body had been discovered inside the property. Emergency services arrived at the scene at around 8.30am on Wednesday, May 11.

The victim, a woman in her 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.

Detectives have since arrested a 21-year-old man, from Liverpool, who they say is known to the victim, on suspicion of murder. He has been taken into custody to be questioned.

Scenes are currently in place on Radway Road and York Road as crime scene investigators carry out forensic examinations. Neighbours told the ECHO the news was "devastating."

Detective Inspector Laura Lamping said: "We can confirm that a woman in her 40s has sadly died this morning following an incident at a house in Huyton. Although an arrest has been made, we are in the very early stages of the investigation as we seek to establish what happened at the address. It is therefore vital that anyone with information that could assist our enquiries gets in touch.

"If you live in the area and witnessed the incident, or saw any suspicious behaviour this morning on Radway Road, please contact police immediately. Any information, no matter how small, may prove vital to our investigation.
