Murder accused Jack Sadler appears in court, co-accused denies being accessory to murder

A Tasmanian woman has denied being an accessory to the alleged murder of Launceston man Jake Anderson Brettner.

Gemma Clark, 25, of Riverside, appeared in the Launceston Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning and pleaded not guilty to being an accessory after the fact of murder.

Ms Clark's partner Jack Harrison Sadler, 26, also of Riverside, has been charged with Mr Anderson-Brettner's murder.

He also appeared in court on Wednesday and his matter was adjourned without plea.

Mr Anderson-Brettner, 24, was last seen alive about 6:00pm on August 15.

The couple was taken into police custody on August 18, and the following evening a torso was found in bushland off the Tasman Highway near Targa in the state's north east, which police said belonged to the missing man.

About 20 friends and family of Mr Anderson-Brettner sat silently in the public gallery while the two accused appeared.

Tasmania Police Northern Commander Brett Smith and Detective Acting Inspector Craig Fox were also present in court.

Ms Clark did not apply for bail and has been remanded to appear in the Supreme Court in Launceston on October 15.

Mr Sadler was also detained and will appear again in the Launceston Magistrates Court on September 11.
