A 29-year-old man has appeared in court charged with murder after the death of a 24-year-old in North Lanarkshire.
Craig McCarrol appeared before Hamilton Sheriff Court on Wednesday in connection with the death of Thomas Nelson.
McCarrol made no plea and was remanded in custody.
Police were called to reports of a disturbance in Carron Street, Wishaw, in the early hours of Tuesday.
Officers arrived shortly after 2am and Mr Nelson was taken to University Hospital Wishaw where he later died.
McCarrol is due to reappear in court within eight days.
Thomas Nelson, known as ‘Tam’, was rushed to Wishaw University Hospital but died a short time later.
Detective Inspector John Easton from the Major Investigations team said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Thomas at this very difficult time.
“Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding his death are ongoing and we are keen to talk to anyone who may have information or who may have seen what happened.”
Following the death, heartbroken friends and family paid tributes to the 24-year-old who had a ‘heart of gold’.
One pal wrote: “RIP Tam I can’t believe I am writing this.
"Totally gutted and heartbroken for your family.
"What a sad, sad world we live in. World is so cruel.
"Thinking off your mum and all your family at this sad time.
"No one deserves that. No words."
Another friend said: “Waking up this morning to the sad news of another young life taken far to soon.
“Tam Nelson. My thoughts and prayers are with all friends and family at this sad time."
