Alpine skier Momoka Muraoka won the gold medal in the sitting category of the women's giant slalom at the Pyeongchang Paralympics on Wednesday. Muraoka, 21, has now earned four medals at the Games, including a silver medal in the women's sitting downhill on Saturday and bronze medals in the sitting super-G on Sunday and super combined on Tuesday.

It was the first gold medal for Japan at these Paralympics and also the first for Muraoka, who is competing in her second straight Paralympics. Hailing from Fukaya, Saitama Prefecture, Muraoka made her Winter Paralympics debut in the 2014 Sochi Games, when she was in her second year of high school. Though Muraoka finished in fifth place in the sitting giant slalom that year, she was disqualified in the sitting super-G.
