Author Haruki Murakami's first book in three years, "Ichininsho Tansu," which means "first-person singular," hit the shelves on Saturday. The Sanseido Bookstore's flagship store in the Jimbocho district of Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, opened earlier than usual and began selling the books at 7 a.m.
"Ichininsho Tansu," published by Bungeishunju, is a collection of eight unique short stories, including "Yakult Swallows Poems," a story related to his favorite professional baseball team, the Tokyo Yakult Swallows. As expected from a person who wrote a book featuring poems based on their favorite professional baseball team, this anthology is quite distinctive.
"As the practice of staying home spreads throughout the country as a result of the coronavirus, I'm sure there will be greater interest in reading, and because Murakami's new book is a collection of short stories, it's really easy to get into it," the bookstore's manager said.
