Muppet Show's Jack Burns dies aged 86 after not walking for two years

The Muppet Show writer Jack Burns has died at the age of 86.

His tragic death was confirmed by his manager Peter Santana.

"He has been in senior care for the last two years in good spirits and surrounded by friends and cases of Diet Coke," Peter said in a statement.

"He was as sharp as a tack mentally but had not walked for two years. He achieved many great achievements but his most recent was hitting the 31 year sober mark in December. Truly a sweet and talented man."

The American actor starred in Happy Days, The Partridge Family and Sour Grapes, as well as writing on the 1979 hit Muppet Movie.

Tributes have been paid to American actor and comedy writer Jack Burns (CBS)

He'd lent his voice to characters on The Simpsons, Animaniacs, Mother Goose And Grim, and Darkwing Duck.

Jack also partnered with comedian George Carlin for much of his career, and the two recorded an album together in 1963 called Burns and Carlin at the Playboy Club.

The duo also worked on a radio show together.

Carlin's daughter Kelly Carlin paid tribute to Jack on Twitter, writing: "A foundational piece of the Carlin legacy has gone to the big comedy club in the sky. Jack was one of the sharpest motherf**kers I knew.

"He shaped my father’s mind in unique ways. RIP Jack Burns."
